Following the guidelines of LA city, The city of Beverly Hills is currently developing a Soft-Story Seismic Retrofit Program. The program will affect some commercial, but mostly multifamily buildings.

Approximately 300 buildings are being evaluated by the city for seismic retrofit and compliance which have the following characteristics:

  • Wood-frame construction
  • Two or more stories
  • Large openings on the first floor such as tuck-under parking units
  • Designed prior to 1978

No timeline has been established for adopting such ordinance, but the proposed Soft-Story Seismic Retrofit Program preliminary timeline is extremely short at 2 1/2 years from start to finish. See proposed outline below.
